We had the chance to attend a Food Photography Workshop with Mark Floro as our resource speaker. He is a Canon ambassador and a food photographer for well-known fast food chains, fine dining restaurants, food manufacturer, beverages, and more. What we have seen on billboards along EDSA or magazine probably done by Mr. Floro.

He introduced to us the world of food photography with the:

  • SETUP - His setup with the actual shoot with the client. He connects his DLSR camera to wide screen to provide his clients view while doing the shoots.

  • LIGHTS - pretty much the same with fashion photography or portrait shots.

  • MATERIALS - He uses feather for lights blocking. DYI Reflector.

  • FOOD STYLIST - You'll probably look/need it when your into (commercial) food photography. It helps the photographer in preparing the food.

  • WOW FACTOR - As Mr. Floro would emphasize during the workshops. It boils down to one objective. How will you make it ATTRACTIVE!

In the middle of the workshop, participants were grouped to prepare for a shot. We were presented with donuts, pandesal, fruits, and a regular meal (rice and chicken) to make our own subject. It was a challenge to me. It was difficult to shots plus creating the concept. Luckily I was with a very creative friend. Who was able to twist with the available fruits.

Our group (fruit subject) landed 2nd and eventually the pandesal subject made the rally as the Winner. I could not imagine from a very simple/raw pandesal they had made it ATTRACTIVE!

I found a video on youtube by Rizalde Cayanan that will give a glimpse of Mr. Floro's workshop.
