The day before the event the Black Nazarene image was brought to the Quirino Grandstand from Quaipo Church for the Pahalik (kissing)vigil. Early in the morning of January 9 the carriage of the Black Nazarene left the Quirino Grandstand after the mass to begin the Traslacion (“removal of holy objects from one place to another”) all the way back to the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene in Quaipo in Manila where it is enshrined.
“ In Christianity, the translation of relics is the removal of holy objects from one locality to another (usually a higher status location); usually only the movement of the remains of the saint's body would be treated so formally, with secondary relics such as items of clothing treated with less ceremony. Translations could be accompanied by many acts, including all-night vigils and processions, often involving entire communities.” – wikipedia.org
Along the procession Devotees joined the parade walking barefoot and wiped towels and handkerchiefs on parts of the image that is believe to be miraculous. Some brought their own replica of the Black Nazarene and paraded in the processional route.
